Project Overview

The project was inspired by a quote from a Korean monk's book, which suggests that people can find comfort even in imperfect places. To explore this idea, a survey was conducted to identify locations that people find comfortable on a 3D surface that I designed. Based on this data, I captured photographs of Kyungbokgung, one of the largest palaces in South Korea, focusing on the areas where respondents identified as characteristic of their comfortable place.

Design Process

Survey

The design process started with creating an unstable surface using Illustrator, visualizing the idea of "not perfect" inspired by a phrase from a monk. In order to identify the perception of comfort in this unstable space, I conducted a survey with a diverse group of people. The group included individuals from various ages, genders, and nationalities, aiming to encompass all perspectives. In total, 32 individuals were interviewed to determine where they would feel most comfortable in the given space.
